In this case, the mother of a family has Multiple Sclerosis. Martha’s illness is variable in how it limits her daily abilities. The family does not want to undermine her functioning or dismiss her roles, but the family cannot depend on her; thus they flounder as a group in managing what needs to be done to keep the household going. Secondly, the teenagers in the household have more disposable income than their enabling parents. A structural system with guidelines addresses these issues.
